A 12-month interactive online exploration into the meaning and possibility of our human existence through the universal insights of Rumi, facilitated by Kabir Helminski

The 13th-century poet and mystic Rumi has become one of the most popular spiritual voices of our time—known and loved by people of many faiths and worldviews for his rich metaphors, images, poems, and stories. Using his upcoming book, The Mysterion: Rumi & The Secret of Becoming Fully Human,

Kabir Helminski, one of the foremost translators and writers of Sufi texts, offers a program to deepen our appreciation of Rumi’s teachings by illuminating both the practical psychological dimension behind them, as well as the universal spiritual truths they offer about what it means to be human.

Join us in an online school to explore how conscious community and our own heart coherence is the necessary refuge and essential remedy for the unprecedented challenges we are facing.

  • Overview

In this 12-month course, Kabir Helminski gives us a contemporary lens through which to view and understand the “Mysterion,” the unifying concept that bridges the human and the Divine—and that connects the individual soul with spiritual Reality. This exploration is centered on that core, unifying concept of the Mysterion: the essence and intrinsic meaning of being human.

  • Format

Monthly LIVE teachings including sohbet (spiritual discourse), dialog, experiential practices, Q&A with Kabir, group practice sessions with dervishes, and more. Each session will build harmoniously upon the previous ones to develop a complete holistic understanding of the practices, tools, and principles we need to cultivate the divine potential within us, aligning ourselves with Divine Agency, through humility, reverence, surrender, and love.

  • Material

This 12-month course will be based on chapters in Kabir Helminski’s forthcoming book, 'The Mysterion'. Since the book will not be published until April 2023, you will be sent the chapter being studied each month. There are twenty-four chapters in the book. By 2024, it will be decided whether we will extend into the second year, at which point you will be invited to register again.

Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi

Rumi invites us to the joy of being in relationship with the ultimate Beloved, the Source of our being – a relationship that can be profoundly transformative if we welcome it. In the Islamic world he has been held in the highest esteem not only as a poet but as a saint whose personal example inspired the founding of the Mevlevi Order, and as a mystic whose elaboration of this cosmic sense of Love has had a significant cultural impact. Rumi's influence has been felt by Chaucer, Goethe, and Emerson, to name a few, and via translation he is now one of the most widely read poets in the English language. He lived in the thirteenth century and spent most of his life in Konya, a city in modern-day Turkey. His resting place is visited every year by thousands of people from all around the world, from all backgrounds and traditions.

Kabir Helminski

Kabir is the co-director of The Threshold Society, a non-profit educational foundation rooted within the traditions of Sufism and inspired by the life and work of Mevlana Jalaluddin Rumi. He is an author, a translator of the works of Rumi and others, and a shaikh of the Mevlevi Order which traces back to Rumi. His books on spirituality, Living Presence and The Knowing Heart, have been published in at least twelve languages. His most recent books are In the House of Remembering and Holistic Islam. Kabir is especially interested in finding a contemporary, creative approach to Sufism without compromising the authenticity of tradition. He has toured as shaikh with the Whirling Dervishes of Turkey bringing Sufi culture to more than 100,000 people. He speaks widely on Sufism, often in an inter-spiritual context, and teaches globally through retreats and online conferences.
